Press | Review ~ Great Organbuilders of America

Review of the Great Organbuilders of America series of recordings on the JAV Recordings label:

For me, the finest playing is that of Erik William Suter on Volume 5. A graduate of Oberlin and Yale and a pupil of Thomas Murray (among others), he brings a rare depth of musicianship, rhythmical subtlety, beautifully detailed articulation, allied to a refined ear for colour. His Tournemire Te Deum, Vierne Clair de lune and Toccata, Duruflé Scherzo and Dupré Preludio (from Symphonie II) are not just technically flawless but real interpretations – the sort to which one will always return with pleasure. His Bach is similarly refined and his sense of the fantasia-like quality of the Toccata from BWV 564 is as distinguished as any I have ever heard.
